Our preparation is the key to a lasting finish... and a lasting future.

In December 2008, DRD Ltd became the first Painting and Decorating business in New Zealand to earn the Gold Standard Enviro-Mark NZ. This Environmental Management System helps us to ensure sustainability of the greater environment in New Zealand, as well as creating a safe environment in the place where we live or work.

Philosophy

Whether painting a house or a commercial building, we are always searching for ways to minimize damage to the environment and to ensure the ongoing safety of our team. Enviro-Mark NZ provides us with a framework to systematically assess our performance against recognised environmental and safety standards. It has been a valuable learning curve that has helped us to formalise what we already had in place. It has also highlighted gaps that we have addressed. Implementing this standard demonstrates our commitment to protecting our environment and maintaining the safety of our team.

Sustainability

We believe that the best way to be environmentally sustainable is to do the work correctly the first time. We put a lot of effort into the appropriate preparation and the proper application of the correct product. This means that the quality and finish of the painted surface will last the full duration of the warranty of the actual paint product itself. We also ask our clients to review our work before leaving a job and we address any concerns immediately.  These are some examples of the processes we use to deliver time and money savings for our clients, optimum use of environmental resources and reduction in waste products.

We do not discharge cleaning materials through drains to rivers and waterways. We use an EnviroWash system for cleaning our paint brushes that converts all the residual paint on the brushes to a solid mass which is then disposed of in a responsible manner.

We are prepared to deal quickly with rare accidents. We have a spill kit in our vans so we can quickly collect any paint spillage and prevent it from being absorbed into the storm water.

Health and Safety

Our health and safety manager works in close partnership with all our team members to make safety a priority on all of our sites and jobs. We require the active participation by everyone in our business to adequately plan the work we are carrying out and to act safely at all times. All members of our team are trained for hazard management which leads to improved safety on the job.

We have a 'drug-free' standard for all members of our team which contributes to improved safety for our team on the job.

Continuous Improvement

We continuously review and improve our procedures. Our goal is to develop our policy as a live working document that governs our business operations. We are committed to maintaining this standard in our business and have dedicated resources for continuous improvement and for annual accreditation to this standard. We undertake continuous improvement in the following areas:
  • Energy efficiency
  • Waste management
  • Health and Safety
  • Social responsibility
  • Use of resources
  • Pollution Prevention
  • Compliance with all applicable legislation
